Putting the pee in pH!
Many holistic and homeopathic doctors tell us that our urine pH level should be alkaline, not acidic. Perhaps you’ve heard that cancer thrives in an acidic environment. I haven’t found the studies yet that prove this to be true (please get in touch if you have this data), however, this study cites “Interestingly, many viruses, including the rhinoviruses most often responsible for the common cold infect host cells by fusing with the cell membrane at low pH. Thus a mildly acidic environment is required for optimal infectivity of such pH-dependent viruses. Drugs that increase intracellular pH (alkalinity) have been shown to decrease infectivity of rhinovirus .”
That leads me to believe that even if you are not fighting off cancer by maintaining an alkaline urine pH, you can at least be preventing certain viruses from thriving in your system. Edgar Cayce pioneered the concept that you can affect your pH levels by eating the proper balance of foods. Just remember, your blood pH stays almost constant, as life could not continue otherwise. Test strips such as those above can purportedly help you determine if your urine or saliva are resting comfortably in the alkaline zone. For optimal results, test your second pee in the morning. You’ll find your urine pH changes throughout the day.
